D.G. Liu Wins Chrysalis Remodeling Award

Continuing to set new standards of professionalism, 81 remodeling companies from across the United States will be honored at the fifteenth annual Chrysalis Awards for Remodeling Excellence on June 11th at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta during the Southern Building Show.

Judged by editors and writers of Better Homes & Gardens, Woman’s Day, Southern Living and Houseplans.com, the winners were selected from over 526 entries. The entries were judged on overall design, the creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure.

The Chrysalis Awards program, begun in 1994, recognizes the nation’s best work in seventeen general categories of residential remodeling, as well as regional and national Remodeler of the Year winners.

Project Description

The Rubin's were unhappy with many things about their back yard. They had an existing screened gazebo on stilts that you had to walk down a steep set of steps without any protection from weather to enter. Once inside, it only could seat 4 people comfortably. The back yard sloped so steeply that it was dangerous to take care of as well as unusable for entertaining or for the children to play on.

We put together a plan that met their contemporary tastes complete with stainless steel pipe rails, curved front of the deck/porch and beautiful IPE' mahogany decking with concealed fasteners. Now as they entertain, they can transition to the back yard through first the porch, deck, paver patio with retaining walls, and finally ascend down a stepping stone stairway to a firepit in the woods.

"We now eat many of our meals in the porch. It is like sitting in a treehouse in the woods!"
